Making Paint I - Langridge Pigment

This is my first attempt at making paint. I used Langridge pigment and linseed oil for this trial. I have my own samples of rock that I would like to use in the future. For now, though, I thought I would stick to commercial pigment.

Materials

Langridge Raw Umber Green Pigment - 2 tsp
Langridge Refined Linseed Oil - 1 1/4 tsp
2 Palette Knives
Small Measuring Spoons
Muller and Glass Plate
37mL empty Paint Tube

The materials were purchased at Parkers Art Supply in Sydney. They have two locations now, the one at The Rocks has a larger selection and carries raw pigments. Langridge paint is new to me as it was not available in Boston or Chicago. I have only used it once, today, but it seems to be similar in quality to that of Gamblin Artist Colors, although I don't yet have research to support this. Overall, it was wonderful to make my own paint. I have begun a chart in which I will paint daily swatches of this paint to see how it ages.

Finished Project: Entrelac Shawl

Here is an Entrelac shawl that I have been working on for some time. The pattern used is Motley from Knitty.com. The yarn is Malabrigo Worsted Merino Yarn - 125, and the color is 125 Mariposa. Here are the finished photos... Enjoy!

Finished Project: Colette Crepe Dress

I finished my first dress! It is everything I had hoped for. The class I took at JP Knit and Stitch in Boston was a perfect way for me to venture into clothing territory with my sewing. I only have a few photos of the finished dress. These were taking at my cousin's wedding over the weekend. The dress is the perfect mix of a light summer dress and class that it fit right in with the wedding attire. My number one priority when dressing up is comfort and that things stay where they are supposed to. I highly recommend this dress for someone who wants to try a sewing challenge.
Here are the photos I have so far... I am too excited to wait until I have time for an official photo shoot in the dress.

Thanks to JP Knit & Stitch for the class and to Jeanne, our teacher. As I moved recently from Boston to Illinois and will soon be moving to Australia, this dress will surely make the cut of must keep clothing!

Dressmaking Update - Colette Crepe Dress Workshop

Dressmaking Update!
I began my class at JP Knit and Stitch Wednesday night. I spent the two hours cutting fabric and learning how to use a rotary cutter. After working with it, I don't know why I ever worked with scissors. Here are the ones we had available to us:
 The OLFA 28mm Rotary Knife
The OLFA 18mm Rotary Knife
I am not sure if these are the best out there, but they did the trick, wonderfully. Now I have the pattern cut out and am anxiously waiting for next Wednesday and our next class. Here is a photo of the fabric I am using and the pattern booklet:
